My name is Emily Dagasso, and I am a chemistry student within the Faculty of Science at TRU. Throughout my education at TRU I have been introduced to research regularly through required and elective courses, mentorship opportunities, as well as funded programs.

My scientific background has provided me with the ability to conduct and participate in a broad range of exciting research projects, including analytical, synthetic and catalytic chemistry that have all furthered my enthusiasm for chemistry. Beginning in June 2023 I have been a volunteer member of Dr. Kingsley Donkor’s research group, focusing on developing and validating a method for the simultaneous quantification of cannabinoids and terpenes in personal care products. Additionally, I have been fortunate to work with Dr. Dipesh Prema as a Directed Studies student and it was because of this research that I was a recipient of TRU’s Undergraduate Research Experience Award Program scholarship. Within this research I have established an efficient synthetic method for a catalyst to be used in industrial hydroamination reactions utilizing readily available first-row transition metals.

This past summer I was a Community Engaged Research Fellow and participated in a project aimed to envision the future of community engaged research within Kamloops B.C. utilizing cultural mapping as the methodology. As an Undergraduate Research Ambassador, I was able to continue this summer’s work as well as promote undergraduate research through various community events. My membership in the Biology and Chemistry Research Club has also allowed me to work with many undergraduate students and guide them through participating and conducting their own research.

These diverse research experiences have allowed me to delve into the daunting, nevertheless exciting, universe of research. Below is a collection of past courses, assignments and reports that I believe demonstrate my knowledge and proficiency within research.
